Council's Trade Waste Policy, the "Concurrence Guidelines for Liquid Trade Waste Discharges to the Sewerage System" was developed by the Department of Land and Water Conservation in 2002.

At the pre-lodgement stage of a development application (DA), a developer should identify all the approvals that will be required and the supporting informtion needed for each application. If the developers proposal generates a liquid trade waste discharge, they will be required to submit an application seeking approval from Council.

Businesses that produce Liquid Trade Waste and discharge that Trade Waste to Council's sewer must have completed a Discharge of Liquid Trade Waste Application - approval form. This form is to be submitted to and approved by Council, before works are undertaken on any sewer pre-treatment device such as grease arrestors or oil separators. This form is to be submitted to Council along with the required information, as specified on the application form, including the specified application fee. Only fully documented applications will be accepted.

A plumbing and drainage approval and permit will be required to be completed before works commence, with the appropriate fee as specified in Council's fees and charges.

This is done to ensure compliance with the Local Government Act and DWEHA guidelines.

For businesses that produce Liquid Trade Waste, but do not discharge to sewer, a Notification Only - Liquid Trade Waste Production form should be completed and forwarded to Council.

Note: This includes businesses in rural areas which are linked to low pressure mains sewer systems.

Businesses that DO NOT produce Liquid trade waste are not required to complete a Trade Waste Application Form.

A copy of the forms can be downloaded from the Liquid Trade Waste Forms section along with an informtion brochure on 'Managing Liquid Trade Waste'.
