Council is responsible for the maintenance and development of parks and reserves (passive recreation) within Parkes Shire. Sporting grounds (active recreation) are generally managed by Sports Councils, with Council staff maintaining those ovals where the Sports Council does not have the necessary equipment.

Altogether Council controls approximately 50 separate parks and ovals, with a total area of over 150 hectares. Additionally Parks and Gardens staff maintain a multitude of gardens throughout the Shire, including those of community facilities such as The Neighbourhood Centre, Family Day Care, Libraries, etc. more ..
